Wild Boar Traps
Although the design of a hog trap has remained pretty much the same during the last decades, there are many fine variations. Trapping wild boars can be done in 2 ways, using homemade traps or pre-made traps purchased from hunting stores. Before purchasing a hog trap you must take into consideration the following aspects and answer the following questions:
size - does the trap need to fit in the back of your car?
portable or permanent - will you be moving the trap around or you will install it permanently?
strength - never purchase a trap that has under-build sidewalls because the hogs will most likely smash them open.
In this article we will be reviewing some of the most efficient wild boar traps used by experienced hunters all over the world.
Hickbuilt Guillotine Trap Front
![]() |
The Trap Front’s frames are 5 x 5 and the channels that the door slides in are 6′ tall. The frame is made from 1 square tubing and covered with 6 gauge Utility Panel. The door is made using 1″ Square Tubing and covered with Utility Panel as well. The door measures 36″ tall x 32″ wide and slides in steel channels that have a locking mechanism that keeps the door closed once it falls so the hogs can’t lift the door. The entire Trap Front weighs 75 pounds. The trigger for the door is located at the top of the trap front where you tie off your trip wire. Once you get the front tied off to a couple of “T” posts you can make the trap whatever size you feel is necessary. Adding 5 High Utility Panel to this Trap front and making a big circle pen type trap is most common.
Guillotine Door Trap

The Guillotine trap front frames are 5′ wide and 5′ high and covered with 4″ x 4″ Utility Panel to keep little pigs from escaping. The Push-Up door trap fronts are 5′ wide and 52″ high and covered with the same 4″ x 4″ Utility Panel. All Hickbuilt Traps and Trap Fronts are unpainted unless you would like them painted and they will adjust the price accordingly.
Hickbuilt Push-Up Trap Front
![]() |
These Trap Front frames are 5′ wide x 52″ tall. The door is a Push-Up style door like the ones on the Hog Master Box Traps. The frame is constructed from 1″ square tubing and covered with Utility Panel. The door is also constructed from 1″ tubing and measures 28″ wide and 36″ tall and is covered with 2″ x 4″ panel just like the box traps. This style door will allow you to continuously catch hogs once the door has been dropped. The hogs will just root the door up with their snouts and enter the trap with the already caught hogs. The trigger for the door is directly above the door and this is where you tie off your trip wire. Just as the Guillotine Trap Front you can tie the Push-Up Trap Front to a couple of “T” posts and add Cattle Panels or Utility Panels and make a big circle pen type trap.
