Wild Boar Skinning

Skinning a wild boar isn’t rocket science but the method takes time and patience, no need to rush or you will fail. Of course, if you don’t want to do it yourself you might as well call a specialist to do the “dirty work” for you in exchange for a small fee. If you are however a DIY kind of person, we strongly recommend that you follow our steps and you will have a skin free wild boar in no time. First of all, the things you will need for completing this task: pliers, a meat hook or a heavy duty cable and most important, a box cutting razor knife with extra blades included. After purchasing the right tools, it is time to start the process:

Step 1 - you will need to hang the wild boar on a heavy and sturdy tree branch by its snout. We recommend using a heavy duty cable or hook through both sides of the snout. The main idea is to get the cable/hook through as much flesh as you can.

Step 2 - after you have completed step 1, you must cut a ring around starting below an ear and continuing all the way around the neck keeping underneath the other ear. The result should look like a necklace cut all the way around the animal’s neck.

Step 3 - with your knife, cut rings around the top of each of the wild boar’s leg - where it meets the body. Afterwards, make a similar cut ring above the knee and connect these two rings with a straight and shallow cut. After doing so, you should start peeling off the skin using your knife to cut the fat ( when necessary ).

Step 4 - use your razor to make a cut in 2 inch strips down the body. We recommend that you start at the necklace that you made in step 2.

Step 5 - now you must grasp the top of each of the strips of skin with pliers and try to pull them down. When peeling the skin strips off be very careful as there is no place for mistakes. In order to seperate the skin from the animal’s fat we strongly recommend using the knife.

Step 6 - repeat the entire process until you remove all of the fat.

As far as tips and warnings are concerned, we suggest that you get extra blades as the tough skin will dull the razor. We also suggest that you hold the blade at an angle when cutting through the wild boar’s skin in order to avoid cutting the flesh. This skinning procedure is harder than skinning whitetail deer because the skin is extremely tough and will ruin the blades. It may come in hand to cut through the fat under the skin as the wild boar is being skinned.

We strongly recommend that you read the steps over and over again as there aren’t places for mistakes and you should be attentive all the time. Take things slowly and with patience and you will do things the right way.
